The study of Mathematics opens a variety of doors for a career in business, industry, education or science. The University of Potsdam offers students interested in Mathematics a diverse, research-oriented course of study with numerous links to research centers outside the university. Information for pupils and schools can be found here and further information on studying here.
There are currently 20 professors at the Institute of Mathematics in Potsdam. Their research groups represent a broad spectrum of current research directions in Mathematics. Members of the institute coordinate a Collaborative Research Center (SFB 1294) and are part of the steering committee of a Priority Program (SPP 2026) both financed by the German Research Foundation DFG. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites you to the inaugural lecture by Prof. Dr. Rudolf Zeidler. Rudolf Zeidler has been Professor of Geometry at the Institute of Mathematics since April 2025. In his lecture entitled
Scalar Curvature: From Classical Relativity Theory to Modern Comparative Geometry
he will provide insights into his research on Riemannian geometry and its modern developments.

On 12 and 13 November, the regional round of the Mathematics Olympiad took place at the University of Potsdam, with 490 school pupils from Potsdam taking part. In challenging written exams, they demonstrated their mathematical skills and qualified for the state round, which will take place in Blossin from 20 to 22 February 2026.
The award ceremony for the regional round will be held on 16 January 2026 in the Audimax of the University of Potsdam, where the participants in the state round will also be announced.
The It's Not Just Numbers podcast is aimed at anyone interested in maths, especially (potential) students of mathematics.
