The signature of a closed manifold is an important invariant in geometric topology. Recently, Higson, Xie, and Schick proved an invariance theorem for the K-theoretic signature in codimension 2. They left the L-theoretic counterpart of this
result as an open problem. In this talk, I will provide an introduction to the topic, covering the backgrounds, basic definitions and results. Time permitting, I will discuss related results and further developments related to the result.
