Computational Topology - Lecture Course

Computational Topology sits at the intersection of mathematics and computer science. It develops methods on how to computationally represent the connectivity of geometric and combinatorial objects, and how to analyze these representations to uncover hidden, underlying structures within complex data.

 

Lectures and discussion sessions: Wednesdays 12:15-13:45 and Thursdays 12:15-13:45.

Weekly exercise class: Mondays 16:15-17:45.

The image shows two interface surfaces based on cutting through neighborhoods of multicolored point clouds representing protein or brain segmentation data. The colors on the surfaces themselves indicate geometric proximity  to the original point cloud. This information can be used to analyze how the connectivity of the interface changes depending on when including parts of the interface that are further from the generating data.
