In this talk I will introduce the concept of Lepage equivalents, explain their relevance in the geometrical formulation of variational problems, discuss some of their properties and describe how they can be used to obtain conservation laws that generalize the Noether Theorem. If time permits, I will also show concrete applications to a Boussinesq-type model.
