In this talk we study the free fermion in the framework of functional field theory. It turns out that the theory is twisted due to the chiral anomaly of the free fermion. We give a detailed construction of the twist and discuss the corresponding twisted field theory. This is part of ongoing research with Matthias Ludewig.
