The quantum metric structure of q-deformed spaces

The talk will survey a number of advances in the understanding of the quantum metric structure on q-deformations of classical spaces, such as the 2-sphere and the Lie group SU(2), that has emerged over the last five years.  I will strive to make the talk accessible to everyone with a basic background in operator algebras and, in particular, define the relevant q-deformations and explain what is meant by a `quantum metric structure'.
