The holographic index theorem relates the index of a Dirac-type operator on a compact manifold with boundary subject to certain local boundary conditions to the index of an induced operator on the boundary. The latter index can then be computed by the usual Atiyah-Singer index formula. The proof of the holographic index theorem will be explained in some detail.
