In my master's thesis I develop the algebraic K-theory of Hecke algebras of totally disconnected locally compact groups. A main result is the proof that the K-groups of these Hecke algebras can be written as a colimit of K-groups of unital rings. Finally, we apply this result in the calculation of the zeroth K-group of the Hecke algebra of the two-dimensional special linear group over the p-adic numbers.
