Starting with a relaxed elastic shell, any deformation yields certrain stresses inside the material. In the static case, equilibrium configurations for a given deformation of the boundary are obtained by minimizing the total elastic energy. In this talk we will derive the minimal elastic energy surfaces equation as well as look at experiments and numerical simulations.
