Math Ph.D. Day:

Good news everyone, the Ph.D. Day of the Institute of Mathematics will take place on Wednesday July 18 in  Room 2.22. This year our four speakers will take us on a tour from Geometric Analysis over Graph Theory to System Biology.

14.00 - 14.30: Boundary Value Problems for the Lorentzian Dirac Operator - Sebastian Hannes

14.30 - 15.00: Hyperelastic Hypersurfaces - Claudia Grabs

15.00 - 15.30: Coffee Break

15.30 - 16.00: A Riesz Decomposition Theorem for Schrödinger Operators on Graphs - Florian Fischer

16.00 - 16.30: How sequential data assimilation can support decision making in oncology - Corinna Maier

Bike tour:

On the week end of the 7th/8th July (we decide on a specific date soon) we meet at Potsdam main station at 11.00. Our tour will take us around the scenic Schwielowsee to Werder main station, where we can take the train back into the city. On the way we will visit Albert Einsteins summer house (2,5€ admission for students) and have a picnic at the lake.

New here?

If you recently started your Ph.D. at our Institute, please do the following:

  • Add yourself to our PhD student mailing list mathe-doc. (To do this write a request to Mr. Dathe {dathe[at]} or to one of the PhD representatives.)
  • Join us for activities. (Infos are spread over the PhD mailing list.)
  • Participate in our one-per-semester PhD day! Find out what other PhD students are working on or give a talk yourself!

The current Ph.D. representatives are Oleksandr Zandorozhnyi and Alexander Friedrich.

What do we do?

  • Come to us with any questions, concerns or problems regarding your PhD studies.
  • We represent the group of PhD students in mathematics in the Institutsrat.
  • We organize the PhD day together with the organizing committee.
  • We organize regular meetings for PhD students.

If you are interested in our events, or if you want to organize one yourself, get on our mailing list "mathe-doc"and/or contact us.
